UBF Hands Over 130 National Coaching Certificates in Major Boost for Ugandan Boxing

The Uganda Boxing Federation today officially handed over 130 national coaching certificates to boxing trainers during a ceremony held at Club Obligato, marking another significant milestone in the continued development of the sport under UBF President Moses Muhangi.

The certification event attracted coaches, boxing stakeholders, gym owners, and sports enthusiasts from different parts of Uganda, as the federation recognized and empowered trainers who successfully completed the national coaching program.

Among the notable certified coaches were Conrad Sseruyange, popularly known as “Kingkong” from Bata Bata Boxing Club, alongside Coach Bbuule Nicholas, Coach Abdul Tebazalwa, Coach Ivo, Coach Blaise, and many other respected figures within Uganda’s boxing community.

The initiative is being viewed as one of the key achievements registered during Moses Muhangi’s new term in office, as the federation continues to focus on professionalism, technical development, and structured growth of boxing across the country.

Certified Coaches

Why The Certification Matters

The certification of coaches is expected to greatly improve the quality of boxing training in Uganda. Certified trainers are better equipped with modern coaching knowledge, athlete safety standards, ring tactics, fitness management, discipline, and talent development techniques.

For boxers, this means access to more professional guidance, safer training environments, improved technical preparation, and better career development opportunities. Young fighters especially stand to benefit from organized coaching systems that can help them transition from amateur boxing into elite and professional levels.

The program also strengthens Uganda’s ability to compete internationally. With trained and recognized coaches spread across different regions, the country can develop more disciplined fighters capable of representing Uganda on continental and global stages.

Benefits To Uganda’s Sports Industry

Beyond boxing itself, the move contributes positively to Uganda’s wider sports ecosystem. Certified coaches create employment opportunities, help reduce unprofessional practices in gyms, and encourage structured sports development among the youth.

Boxing has long been one of Uganda’s strongest sporting disciplines, producing legendary athletes and international representatives. Programs like these help preserve that legacy while building a stronger future generation.

The certification process also enhances credibility within the sport. Sponsors, promoters, and international organizations are more likely to work with federations that emphasize professionalism, education, and athlete welfare.

Importance To UBF And The Federation’s Future

For the federation, the certification exercise strengthens UBF’s authority as the governing body responsible for regulating and developing boxing in Uganda. It demonstrates active leadership and a commitment toward long-term progress rather than short-term events alone.

By investing in coaches, the federation is indirectly investing in thousands of upcoming boxers around the country. A strong coaching structure forms the backbone of successful boxing nations, and this latest development suggests that Uganda is working toward creating a more sustainable boxing system.

The move also helps improve unity between clubs and the federation, while ensuring coaches operate under recognized standards and ethical guidelines.

Writer’s Opinion

In my view, this is one of the most important boxing development projects Uganda has witnessed in recent years. While many people often focus only on fights and champions, true boxing growth begins with educated and empowered coaches.

The decision by the UBF leadership under Moses Muhangi to certify over 130 coaches shows a vision aimed at building the sport from the foundation upward. If such programs continue consistently, Uganda could soon experience a new era of disciplined athletes, improved international performance, and stronger professional boxing structures.

This is not just a victory for the coaches who received certificates today — it is a victory for Ugandan boxing as a whole.
